HK gold ETF plans to tap rich vein

Hong Kong's first exchange-traded fund to track the price of gold has been launched to take advantage of interest in the metal as its price hovers near record highs and investors in Asia look for ways to hedge against inflation.
Gold is a traditional favourite of Asian investors. They are giving it more attention as gold for immediate delivery now costs 36 per cent more than it did a year ago. Hong Kong inflation, at 6.1 per cent a year in June, is close to its highest level in a decade, jumping from an annual rate of 1.3 per cent a year ago.
ETFs allow investors to own gold without having to store or transport it themselves and to easily turn their holding into cash by selling their shares.
